Due to the cancellation of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers 2020 Annual Award Ceremony last October the Presentation of the Bristol Maritime Trade Award for education within the Institute, in memory of our Past President Edward Renshaw, took place using the Zoom platform on the 23rd March 2021.
The 2020 recipient was Simon Ward, (Simon being a Fellow of the Institute, and works in Piraeus as a ship sale and purchase broker). Simon has contributed on the Institute’s Board of Examiners, served a period of time on the Education and Training Committee, and currently tutors at the Hellenic Management Centre in Piraeus, Greece. Simon was also the mastermind behind the Global Book Drive which the Institute has been working on for the past three years; collecting and transporting new and used books to some of our branches in economically challenged areas of the world; namely East Africa, Sri Lanka and this year Ghana; where we have just arranged shipment of two pallets of books, and a container to house them and enable students in and around Accra and Tema to visit to study.
Please see above a photograph of the presentation of the Award to Simon, which took place in Piraeus, by Natalia Margioli FICS. Our President, Nigel Fletcher, gave the presentation address with our Secretary, Alan Morris remarking upon Ted’s contribution to the education of future shipbrokers , on behalf of Ted’s family - the sponsors of the award
.
So, the Association name is becoming known worldwide, with the Decanter engraved with its name, now gracing Captain Lopez home “Down Under”.
